What’s the role? 

We are delighted to be introducing a new role to our team. We are looking for a Product Manager, EV on a full time and permanent basis. This role will be based in central Wellington.

The Product Manager is responsible for leading product management, specifically for electric vehicle (EV) charging services and technology. This involves managing the market portfolio offering, roadmaps, and end-to end sales cycle, including strategic planning, development and execution. The role is instrumental in identifying and developing business growth through leveraging products, services and solutions capability and working with industry partners.

They will oversee and improve the customer experience and onboarding process for both hardware and digital products, ensuring they have smooth and intuitive experience.  They will also focus on how customers interact with the product, from initial setup to long-term usage, optimizing their journey to ensure satisfaction and engagement, including developing strategies to make the product feel effortless and user-friendly throughout its lifecycle. The role will gather and prioritise product requirements related to features, as well as developing detailed technical specifications, processes and approaches. They will plan projects with local and global R&D functions, preparing business cases for new developments, and ensuring timely delivery of product introductions. In addition to product management, the role encompasses providing technical support training to both the sales team and external stakeholders.  This includes support for technical queries, coordination with internal EV teams, and delivering technical sales presentations.

 

Your key responsibilities will be:

Strategic Direction

  • Lead the strategic development of EV charging services to ensure the competitive positioning of Thundergrid
  • Lead the internal onboarding of new EV charging hardware products to ensure they are the right fit for the customers
  • Ensure continual market analysis and competitive positioning of both hardware and services products.
  • Represent the company with partners to provide a professional and credible company image and ensure business objectives can be met.
  • Liaise with the Marketing and Sales functions to ensure EV services are well communicated and user friendly
  • Along with the rest of the leadership team, identify new areas for business growth.
  • Plan projects with local and global R&D functions to establish roadmaps and project updates.
  • Prepare business cases where required to support new compliance or feature development efforts, and ensuring timely delivery of product introductions.

 

Operational Delivery

  • Gather and prioritise product detailed technical specifications, processes and approaches. Oversee the integration of new products into the company folio by working across departments.
  • Prioritise and plan projects within local and global R&D functions.
  • Develop and manage policies and processes for the management of the portfolio over its life cycle. Ensure portfolio roadmaps and high-level requirements definitions are updated and communicated internally
  • Lead the market requirements definition process for new or significantly revised products and manage their market or customer introduction as well as providing oversight of the initial volume ramp-up (where relevant).
  • Lead the continued development of products to meet target market needs in terms of functional requirements, profitability and overall competitiveness over the product life cycle. Specifically: product conception, launch, continuous profitability analysis, feature suitability, product revisions and extensions and phase out.
  • Develop and maintain a full suite of portfolio documentation to support the needs of the business including product strategy, launch material, sales support material including value proposition, manuals, promotional material, change management documents and phase-out guidelines to name a few.
  • Provide technical support training to the sales team, customers, and other external stakeholders both directly and through co-ordination with internal EV teams.
  • Create and enhance the administration processes to support EV Charging subscriptions and services.

 

Relationship Building and Partner Management

  • Represent with industry stakeholders such as government bodies and industry associations and at industry conferences and exhibitions.
  • Develop relevant partner and supplier relations to ensure successful business execution coordinating activities with senior management team as appropriate.

 

Key Metrics

  • Performance in this role is as deemed relevant for any period and may include the following financial objectives:
    • Annual orders
    • Annual Sales
    • EBITDA
    • Cash flow
    • Other specific goals as determined necessary.
  • Maintaining portfolio roadmap.

 

 

What we are looking for:

You’ll have extensive product management experience and have at least 5 years’ experience within the energy or electric vehicle sector.

It is essential that you have the following functional competancies: Product marketing strategies, portfolio planning and lifecycle governance, channel/partner management, an understanding of technology/services concepts and project planning.  If you had a Bachelor of Engineering (electrical, telecommunications, software development or a related field), that would be a bonus but not essential.
