Purpose and Objective
- We are looking for an experienced accounting expert, who will own application of US GAAP accounting and financial reporting rules in practice, fully own EMEA (Europe, Middle East & Africa) Balance Sheet, advise on specific accounting treatments, proactively propose improvements, and manage the work of two GL accountants as part of the job too, in the SAP ERP environment with complex CO/PA implementation.
- The Manager Accounting has strong empowerment to shape the landscape of EMEA Accounting, drive process standardization and improvements in the region and help L+G to further grow our position as quality and innovation leader. This role will enhance the quality of the close process, internal control environment and efficiency of coordination.
- Key stakeholders in EMEA and Group lean significantly on this accounting and reporting role. You will work closely with the Head of Accounting EMEA and Senior Manager Group Accounting to deliver internal financial reports, cost accounting, US GAAP financial statements and statutory accounts preparation. The key to success is strong relationships building skills, drive to achieve, and great coordination skills.
- The role reports to the Head of Accounting EMEA with a dotted line to the Senior Manager Group Accounting. It is a newer accounting and reporting role based in our Center of Excellence in Prague and will work closely with key stakeholders in the region and as such, requires strong relationship building skills and drive towards key objectives. The role can rely on vast support of the innovative spirit in the SSC team in delivering digital transformation and improvement projects. Relevant experience and skillset are expected. In addition, an adequate accounting certification is also required.
Key Performance Indicators
- New US GAAP / Group accounting pronouncements applied in practice on time, in full
- Requests for advice on specific account treatments answered in a timely and satisfactory manner
- Full knowledge of EMEA balance sheet, understanding of all major period shifts in balances
- Elimination of risky and potentially unsubstantiated balance sheet items
- Monthly closing & Management reporting: Leads the monthly close process for the EMEA region, monthly reporting of the actuals to the regional executive management as part of the month-end package coordinated by the regional FP&A team, cash flow reviews
- Treatment of all material judgmental or complex accounting transactions standardized across region
- Improvement projects, ideally self-started, completed with goals achieved, on time
- Quality: Quarterly balance sheet reviews, analyze variances and Quarter-to-Quarter bridges
- Knowledge: Subject matter expert on all accounting related matters for the EMEA region under close collaboration with the Group Accounting team
- Digital transformation: Integrated Management Systems, Improving closing landscape
- Stakeholders’ management: Effective communication and coordination with key stakeholders
Core Areas of Responsibility/ Accountability
- Ensures compliance with the US GAAP accounting standards as outlined in the Group’s Accounting and Reporting Manual
- Responsible for the proper adoption of new US GAAP standards for the EMEA legal entities as requested and coordinated by the Group Accounting team.
- Consults the subsidiaries on difficult and complex accounting topics and provides guidance
- Responsible for assessing the judgmental accounting positions and non-routine transactions.
- Prepares and leads through quarterly balance sheet reviews with the Region CFO and Group CFO
- Supports the closing-related activities with the SSC, the local finance team and controllers and the Group Accounting + Controlling team
- Ensures accuracy of financial reporting for EMEA as a region
- Proactively identifies and reports any compliance issues or emerging risks and development and implement mitigation plans
- Ensures that all internal audit recommendations related to internal controls are implemented timely
- Contributes to appropriate training of the accounting staff and the SMEs on technical accounting matters such as lease accounting, etc.
Requirements
- Minimum 5 years’ experience from senior roles in general finance and accounting or equivalent position in a multinational company
- Extensive experience and knowledge of finance processes and financial systems
- Experience with SSC function is advantage
- High level of integrity, commitment, and responsibility
- Able to effectively communicate at all levels of the organization
