Technical Trainer II

The Technical Trainer II is primarily responsible for providing training to utility customers, contractors, and Landis+Gyr personnel in the application, operation, maintenance and troubleshooting of Landis+Gyr hardware and software products.


Location: This position is available at any L+G office location in the US.


Primary Responsibilities: 

  • Develops and delivers presentations, demonstrations, train-the-trainer series, end user classes and other specialized training courses pertaining to Landis+Gyr technology.  This includes installation, programming, maintenance, repair and troubleshooting of our hardware and software products.
  • Delivers presentations and technical seminars at trade shows and user conferences as required.
  • Develops and delivers training using a variety of media and methods including but not limited to, live instructor-led lecture and discussion (in person and online), hands-on skills instruction, and various e-learning or distanced-based options.
  • Develops and maintains assigned course curriculums, instructional materials, participant materials, and online course content.  Produces professional quality handouts, presentations and manuals that support Landis+Gyr’s world-class reputation for quality. 
  • Develops and administers hands-on lab exercises such as proper hardware installation, use of field tools, and use of other relevant testing equipment. Then monitors and evaluates participant progress.
  • Coordinates training activities (room requirements/setup, courseware shipping, travel arrangements, etc.) for all assigned training events.
  • Manages training event activities before, during, and after course completion to ensure consistent and successful delivery.
  • Responsible for routine maintenance and upkeep of technical training facility/resources (equipment, training lab, PCs, etc.).
  • Collaborates with project/program managers to develop training plans for large AMI deployments, participates in internal and external kickoffs as needed.
  • Travels domestically and internationally to provide customized onsite training.
  • Works with senior training staff and Landis+Gyr stakeholders to assess the training needs and development requirements for new products.
  • Works with senior training staff in the development of new training courses and curriculums based on feedback from product development teams.
  • Works with senior training staff in performing evaluations of existing materials and making recommendations for improvement of existing training solutions.
  • Takes a supporting role in providing support, guidance, and direction to inexperienced trainers by utilizing strong training and technical skills.
  • Participates as an active and engaging member of the training team to help move the group toward the completion of its goals.
  • Represents Landis+Gyr in a positive, professional manner, at all times.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Instructional Design, Electronics, Computer Science, Communications, or related field.
  • Background/education relating to technical training or education for adult learners.
  • Teaching or Technical Training certifications are welcome, but not required.
  • Utility industry experience is a plus.

  • Ability to meet all requirements for instructor certification.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Good project management, time management and prioritization skills; ability to handle multiple priorities and work well under pressure with multiple deadlines.
  • Possesses strong facilitation and classroom management skills and techniques.
  • Ability to ensure the effectiveness and accuracy of training while engaging audiences with diverse skill sets and learning needs or styles.
  • Possesses an understanding of the basic principles involved with adult learning.
  • Ability to effectively resolve conflicts and negotiate resolutions to complicated situations for internal and external customers, employees, and peers.
  • Ability to develop quality training sessions utilizing standard development tools.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical documentation.
  • Confidence in working with all subject matter experts, including management personnel.
  • Individual must be willing and able to travel up to 50% of their work schedule.
  • Individual must be willing and able to travel Internationally at times.
  • Must have valid driver's license.
  • Must have or be able to obtain a valid US Passport.
  • Must have basic computer knowledge and typing skills.
  • Must be proficient with Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, PowerPoint, Excel, Word, etc.)
  • Fluency and ability to deliver trainings in a foreign language is highly desirable.
