Sr. Engineering Lab Specialist

Supports engineering activities to develop practical solutions to defined engineering problems based on engineering/scientific principles, outline of objectives, constraints, possibilities, and interface requirements.  Investigates technical approaches and develops associated equipment, method, experimentation, and measurement to advance product performance.  Designs preliminary schematics and modifications for new designs or proposed modifications to existing designs.  Builds and troubleshoots/debugs prototypes.  Assists in the design, construction, test, and check‑out of test equipment.   Collects and analyzes data during testing, evaluates validity of solution to the defined problem, prepares reports on findings and makes recommendations.   Provides technical support to marketing and production during product transition from design phase to production phase. 

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Build, Modify, and Repair prototypes for new electronic products
  • Design and build test equipment used in the testing of new products
  • Technical support to other departments as needed.
  • Inspect, test, and evaluate meters and equipment to ANSI Specifications or other applicable specs.
  • Interpret test requirements and develop spreadsheets to record and evaluate data and test results.
  • Adjusting and/or calibrating test equipment
  • Correcting malfunctions by adjusting or replacing parts
  • Ability to solder both surface mount and through-hole components
  • Trouble shooting failures utilizing schematics and related design documentation
  • Other duties as assigned

 

 

Education and Experience

  • Associate degree and completion in electronics specialized training
  • 5+ years of relevant experience

 

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of electricity and electronics
  • Good working knowledge of RF and RFI testing
  • The ability to work with extremely small electronic components
  • The ability to use electronic test equipment (oscilloscopes, voltmeters, spectrum analyzer and related RFI equipment, etc.)
  • Excellent listening skills and ability to understand information and ideas presented through spoken words
  • Ability to recognize potential problems and take proactive measures
  • Ability to read and understand information and ideas presented in writing
  • Acute vision to see details at close range
  • Must have proficient multitasking, organizational and time management skills
  • Ability to work independently or on a team
