Role Summary

As an NPI Manufacturing Engineer – Mechanics, you will be responsible for the seamless transition of mechanical products from development into full-scale production. You will work closely with R&D, Quality, NPI-PjM and Production teams to ensure manufacturability, efficiency, and quality of new mechanical components and assemblies. Your role is critical in driving Design for Manufacturability (DFM), process development, tooling, and validation of new manufacturing processes.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Act as the technical bridge between R&D and manufacturing during the product development lifecycle.
  • Lead DFM and DFA (Design for Assembly) initiatives to optimize product design for manufacturing efficiency and cost.
  • Develop and validate new manufacturing processes, tooling, and fixtures for mechanical components.
  • Participate in prototype builds, pilot runs, and ramp-up activities.
  • Create and maintain manufacturing documentation, including work instructions, process flow diagrams, PFMEAs, and control plans.
  • Support root cause analysis and corrective action for mechanical-related production issues.
  • Collaborate with suppliers to ensure readiness and quality of externally manufactured parts.
  • Work within cross-functional teams to meet program milestones, cost targets, and quality metrics.

 

Required Skills & Qualifications

 

Technical Skills

  • Strong understanding of mechanical engineering principles and manufacturing processes (CNC machining, sheet metal, injection molding, casting, etc.).
  • Strong understanding of mechanical drawings.
  • Experience with process development and validation.
  • Proficiency in CAD software (e.g., Creo) and PLM systems.
  • Strong understanding of GD&T and mechanical tolerance stack-ups.
  • Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma methodologies.
  • Understanding quality tools such as PFMEA, control plans.

 

Soft Skills

  • Strong problem-solving and analytical thinking.
  • Excellent communication and cross-functional collaboration skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and projects in a fast-paced environment.
  • Detail-oriented and quality-focused mindset.

 

Qualifications

  • Master/Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related field.
  • 3–5+ years of experience in a manufacturing or NPI engineering role.
