Local Component Manager

The Local Component Manager (LCM) reports into the Systems Support and Sustaining (S3G) Organization and is responsible for management and information gathering of requests for component qualifications or component changes on PCBAs in production (sustaining) in North America, including radio boards, network equipment, metrology, and battery powered end points (gas/water modules). 


Primary Responsibilities

  • Collaboratively with other departments, select and source the best components for inclusion in BOMs for North America products in production, in order to minimize revenue impacts due to supply chain shortages and changes (end of life).
  • Perform detailed datasheet analysis and create component comparison tables to provide engineers with a summary of parts compatibility with existing approved parts in the BOMs. 
  • Edit/reject/approve Engineering Change Requests (ECR) requests based on initial analysis or feedback.
  • Provide component level information to qualify new suppliers or define issues with existing suppliers based on ECRs and other support requests.
  • Evaluate Product Change Notification (PCN), Manufacturing Change Request (MCR), and End of Life (EOL) notices for life cycle impact to L+G products. 
  • Present evaluations to assist in determining business impact and priority.
  • Assist with gathering samples of new components for evaluation and order PCBAs/assemblies for evaluation testing.
  • Collaborate to identify and document critical components and establish standards for the inclusion of alternate components.  
  • Maintain a market understanding of component manufacturers, their product offering and roadmaps to assist with selections of alternate and additional sources for components.
  • Use proper scientific methodology (Define hypothesis, test hypothesis using reproducible experimental practices, peer review and reporting) on projects.
  • Apply engineering principles and concepts to area of specialization and draw solutions.
  • Perform other duties as assigned or required.


Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree required in electrical engineering, or related field and 1-3 years of engineering experience.


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Ability to read and interpret technical documents, procedure manuals, schematics, data books, handbooks, etc.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. 
  • Ability to speak effectively in front of cross functional groups, employees of the organization, and be able to effectively lead meetings via planned agendas.
  • Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference. 
  • Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
  • Ability to proficiently utilize standard computer applications such as spreadsheets, word processors, basic CAD tools, web browsers, email, and Windows.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. 
  • Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.  
  • Knowledge of Systems, Applications and Products in Data Processing. (SAP)
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Ability to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing.
