This role is part of Landis+Gyr’s EMEA (Europe, Middle East & Africa) business, which is expected to become an independent company under new ownership by mid-2026, subject to customary regulatory approvals. We are looking for a Design Quality Engineer to ensure that product designs and development processes meet the highest standards of quality, reliability, and compliance. This role is instrumental in bridging the gap between design, engineering, and manufacturing teams to ensure seamless product realisation. The objective is to proactively identify and mitigate risks, support continuous improvement initiatives, and uphold customer and regulatory requirements throughout the product lifecycle.
In this role you will ensure that product designs meet quality standards and customer expectations throughout the development lifecycle. This role serves as a key interface between engineering, manufacturing, and quality teams to proactively identify and mitigate risks, drive continuous improvement, and ensure compliance with internal and external requirements.
As a Design Quality Engineer, you will be responsible for:
• Advance Product Quality Planning (APQP): Defining quality standards and criteria during the product design and development phases, ensuring alignment with customer requirements and regulatory guidelines.
• Continuous Improvement: Identifying opportunities for process enhancements using methodologies like Design for Six Sigma, Six Sigma or Lean Manufacturing.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to embed quality requirements into product design and development processes.
• Lead quality planning activities including DFMEA, PFMEA, PPAP, risk assessments, and control plans.
• Support project teams in achieving quality objectives and deliverables.
• Review and approve design documentation, specifications, and validation protocols.
• Conduct root cause analysis and implement corrective actions for design-related issues.
• Documentation and Compliance: Maintaining thorough records of quality assurance activities and ensuring compliance with industry standards (e.g., ISO 9001, AS9100) and customer-specific requirements.
• Facilitate design reviews and gate approvals from a quality perspective.
• Monitor and report on quality metrics related to design projects.
• Support supplier quality activities during new product introduction (NPI).
• Participate in audits and regulatory inspections as needed.
• Ensure Critical to Quality (CTQ) characteristics are identified, flowed down to suppliers, and verified through capability analysis.
• Provide timely quality input and support for customer tenders and proposal activities.
• Apply Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) principles and Measurement System Analysis (MSA) techniques to validate design and manufacturing processes.
Required Skills & Experience:
• Proven experience in design or project quality engineering within a product development or manufacturing environment.
• Proficiency in quality tools and methodologies such as DFSS, LSS, DFMEA, APQP, PPAP, and SPC.
• Ability to interpret engineering drawings and specifications.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
• Effective communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
• Familiarity with relevant industry standards and regulatory requirements.
• Experience with PLM systems and CAD tools.
• Knowledge of reliability engineering and statistical analysis.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Bachelor's or Master’s degree in Engineering or related field.
• Certification in Six Sigma, Lean, or similar methodologies.
• Experience working in a global matrix organization.
