Meter Reader I

Primary responsibility is to read assigned meters and submit completed work each day. You will be expected to walk up to each meter but may not need to if the onboard computer/radio system picks it up automatically. When possible, the office personnel will have you read the same routes every month to increase efficiency. Flexibility is required though as assigned territory can change from month to month to meet project requirements including increases/decreases in workloads and adjusting for personnel changes.    

 

Primary Responsibilities:
•    Remotely upload and download daily work.
•    Maintain assigned equipment to standard/specification.  To include vehicles, computers, test and safety equipment.
•    Execute assigned mobile meter reads manually unless meters are picked up by the computer/radio system.
•    Report defective or unsafe service conditions.
•    Follow and enforce all corporate and local QHSE standards. Correct and/or report exceptions.
•    Identify opportunities for continuous improvement through process review.
•    Participate in monthly safety meetings.
•    Participate in cross training to include performing basic network / meter analysis, meter maintenance, warehouse/inventory upkeep.
•    Additional duties as assigned by supervisor or manager.

 

Education and Experience:

•    High School diploma or equivalent is required.  
•    Meter Reading, address locating, driving and/or customer service experience preferred.

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: 
•    Ability to learn to:
•    o    Navigate using a non-GPS enabled mapping program.
•    o    Read and interpret addresses.
•    o    Effectively plan and execute routes to maximize meter read collection.
•    o    Operate the Mobile Reader computer program to ensure accurate, on time reads are being sent to the Utility.
•    o    Effectively use test equipment to verify meter functionality.
•    o    Identify and report unsafe operating conditions including unsafe meters, theft of service, etc. 
•    Must possess proficient oral and written communication skills.
•    Must have the ability to work in adverse weather conditions.
•    Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license
•    Must understand and comply with all company goals and objective.
•    Must maintain and report accurate records of day-to-day activities. 

Previous experience in any of the above fields is preferred.

 

Working Conditions/Physical Requirements/Safety:

Employees are expected to work in all conditions, rain, sun, snow, etc. 
Lift/push/pull/carry: up to 50 Lb.  Walk up to 5 miles per day over varying terrain including concrete, gravel, grass, hills, etc.
Safely carry, deploy, and use a 4’ step ladder.
