Test Automation Architect

The position requires working in fast-paced, time sensitive projects and the applicant must have the ability to quickly switch from one task to another and follow the work plan to meet project milestones.  The job requires excellent working knowledge of testing proficiencies and quality processes related to Agile and DevOps SDLC methodologies.   

 

The Test Automation Architect will be part of the System and Software Automation Team and serve as a domain expert in defining and implementing automation frameworks, processes, coding standards, and best practices for software projects. Additionally, the applicant will design, develop and maintain automation testing architecture to support future initiatives for test automation for software applications in AM/AP.  

 

The job requires someone who is highly skilled in coding and in implementing automation techniques and strategies. The applicant must also have the ability to mentor team members, perform code reviews, train users of the test automation framework and suggest automation best practices. 

 

Primary Responsibilities

  • Analyze current state of testing and requirements for automation.
  • Create framework and implementation strategy for automation to support various projects.
  • Evaluate, select and formulate best usage of test automation tools and future alignment for different products and applications.
  • Technically responsible for maintaining, improving and implementing software automation framework.
  • Collaborate with project teams to strategize and align long term solution for automation including roadmap, tools, framework and approach.
  • Provide guidance, training and mentoring to project teams and automation test engineers for the implementation of testing automation processes and best practices, as needed.
  • Perform code reviews of junior automation team members.
  • Develop automation strategy to support smoke and regression testing for Continuous Delivery based on technical analysis, complexity and reusability.
  • Manage the release of internal framework software releases including user documentation.
  • Suggest and generate right kind of test data and infrastructure to run the automation suites, a plus. 
  • Responds effectively and positively to the demands of work challenges when confronted with changes, ambiguity, adversity and other pressures.

 

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a relevant Engineering field. 
  • Must have a minimum of 10 years’ experience focusing on Automation Testing.
  • Must have a minimum of 10 years’ experience with system and software testing of web, GUI, API, database and Client/Server applications against multiple platforms, including writing test cases, test plans, defects, and test reports.
  • 7+ years of experience in design and development of automation frameworks and automation testing strategies for various applications and sizes.
  • Must possess a minimum of 7 years’ experience with SQL Server
  • Must possess a minimum of 7 years’ experience with Oracle
  • Must possess a minimum of 7 years’ experience with testing Net applications
  • Must possess a minimum of 7 years’ experience with testing UI/Web Applications.
  • Expertise in writing complex SQL queries, including joins.
  • Experience with web service and database validation (Oracle, SQL) automation.
  • Experience using Microsoft development products (TFS, MTM, Visual Studios,).
  • Experience with opensource and CD tools, e.g. Git, Gerrit, Jenkins, Gitlab.
  • Expert knowledge and hands on experience in one or more scripting languages and/or programming languages such as C/C++, C#, Perl, Python, Angular and/or Java.
  • Experience utilizing various test automation tools (such as Robot Framework, Selenium, SoapUI, CodedUI, C#, etc.) and methods (keyword, data-driven, POM, record/playback, hybrid, modular, etc.).
  • Experience in automating web based and desktop applications, web services etc.
  • Experience with managing Docker hosts, images and containers.
  • Working in a virtualized (VMWare) and/or a cloud-based environment a plus.
  • Energy & Utilities industry knowledge a plus.
  • An understanding of web technologies, including architecture, server configuration, HTML, XML and web protocols.

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Establish methodologies, standards and best practices for automation framework, coding and usage.
  • Must be able to lead technical teams.
  • The individual should be self-motivated and result-oriented with a technical aptitude.
  • Must have strong organization skills with attention to details.
  • Must be able to work well both independently and as a team player with excellent verbal and written communications skills.
  • Good interpersonal skills are required to interface with Landis+Gyr staff, vendors and customers.
  • Ability to provide direction to offshore resources.
  • Anticipate and proactively communicate automation needs and requirements with product owners/test /development groups
  • Identify, document, and adhere to processes in order to maximize efficiency and mitigate risks.
  • Stays current with new technologies relevant to field of expertise.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Being able to see the big picture and creatively solve problems will be advantageous to success in this role.
