The Staff Firmware Engineer calls for an experienced, knowledgeable and talented engineer to lead the development of firmware sustaining for the Engineering organization. As a firmware technical lead, you will have an opportunity to lead and collaborate with other engineers to design, plan, develop, and maintain Embedded firmware components for the Firmware Engineering Sustaining team. Experienced and high contributing engineer capable of handling complicated R&D hardware, firmware, software, and complete solutions projects as part of a cross-functional team. Collaborates with Product Management, Project management and other R&D teams in design, development, and validation of complete Smart Grid solutions. Collaborates with SMEs and business partners on component and system design.
Key Responsibilities:
• Technical Leadership responsibilities for firmware development team.
• Direct contribution in the hiring process through technical & team fit interviews.
• Direct contribution to the performance appraisal process, feeding into performance improvement plans & employee recognition plans.
• Provide leadership in design, development, documentation, unit testing, etc.
• Develop specifications including functional requirements, detailed design, code, and test procedures as part of agile/iterative SDP team.
• Identify technical areas for improvement and make detailed business cases for improvements or new areas of opportunities.
• Provide support, troubleshoot and resolve sustaining issues with high Quality Output.
• Develop and unit test features in the Company's software products.
• Provide detailed & accurate estimates for code development efforts.
• Lead in component and/or solution design, development, documentation, and validation.
• Work on agile development teams, collaborating with multiple cross-discipline architecture teams to develop hardware and software components as part of L+G Smart Grid solutions.
• Participate in recruitment, development and mentoring of junior engineers.
• Lead functional area-specific continuous improvement initiatives.
• Lead in innovative technology and solutions development and/or validation

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
• Basic Electrical Engineering knowledge
• Metering Industry knowledge
• Expert status with C, C++, Embedded FW, good programming skills.
• Strong embedded F/W, good programming skills.
• Demonstrated team leadership skills.
• Experience with Embedded RTOS, Source Code Control tools, and IAR a plus.
• Knowledge and ability to optimize code to meet embedded constraints (RAM, ROM and processor time)
• Knowledge of development processes, tools, and related frameworks.
• Deep knowledge of relevant development and/or validation methodologies.
• Deep knowledge of AMI and Smart Grid Systems and Solutions.
• Advanced design, development, or validation skills In functional area.
• Ability to understand and utilize component (i.e., non-volatile memory devices, microcontrollers, DSP’s) datasheets effectively, and write corresponding firmware.
• Excellent relationship-building skills
• Use of emulators, oscilloscopes, and various other testing equipment
• Technical writing abilities
• Excellent listening skills and ability to understand information and ideas presented through spoken words including technical data.
• Acute vision to see details at close range
• Computer skills including C and Assembly Programming, debugging, scripting programming languages, various software packages such as revision control and issue tracking and Microsoft Office familiarity

Education and Experience:
• B.S. in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related degree required.
• Extensive software development experience (7-15 years).

Pay is in the range of $98,122 - $142,088 per year. The position is eligible for a 401(k) match and consideration for an annual bonus. The actual base salary offered depends on a variety of factors, which may include, as applicable, the qualifications of the individual applicant for the position, years of relevant experience, specific and unique skills, level of education attained, and certifications or other professional licenses held.
