Hardware Engineer II

General Summary

 

The Hardware (HW) Engineer designs, develops, documents, and tests electronic hardware for Automatic Meter Reading (AMR)/ Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) systems.  Designs and develops analog circuitry used in Radio Frequency (RF) and sensor applications.  Circuit design involving power supplies, serial interface, signal conditioning, RF circuits, transceivers, battery operated devices, low power, sensor technologies, small signal, transient protection, and microcontroller interfaces. 

 

Primary Duties:

  • Provides direction to Printed Circuit Board (PCB) designers. 
  • Selects, evaluates, and qualifies components. 
  • Develops system design specifications including, functional requirements, detailed design specifications, interface specifications, and production test procedures.
  • Designs to industry standard interfaces where applicable. 
  • Facilitates the introduction of products into high volume production operations. 
  • Provides technical direction to technicians and other engineers. 
  • Develops and implements design verification testing processes and procedures. 
  • Plan and coordinate compliances testing and certification, including FCC and Hazardous Area (UL)
  • Assists with planning and support of field installations of Alpha and Beta phase. 
  • Contributes to product and system test efforts. 
  • May assume responsibility for exiting product enhancement and maintenance efforts.
  • Updates job skills through seminars, classes, and journals

 

Education and Experience:

Required Minimum Level of Education: Bachelors Degree
Required Minimum years of Experience: 2+ to 5 years

Desired Education/Experience:
Bachelors in Electrical Engineering with 2-5 years of experience, or equivalent education experience.
A combination of education and experience may be considered.

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Proficient use of lab equipment: o-scope, vector network analyzer, spectrum analyzer, signal generators
  • Proficient with schematic reading
  • Experience with capture tools and circuit simulation (SPICE) is highly desirable
  • Have proficient hands-on experience with lab works including soldering
  • Experience with RF circuit design and test highly desirable
  • Experience with FCC compliance is highly desirable
  • Experience with product development and manufacturing processes highly desirable
  • Have proficient keyboard/typing and MS Office (Word, Powerpoint, Excel) skills
  • Ability to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing
