Hardware Engineer I

The Hardware (HW) Engineer designs, develops, documents, and tests electronic hardware for Automatic Meter Reading (AMR)/ Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) systems.  Designs and develops analog circuitry used in Radio Frequency (RF) and sensor applications.  Circuit design involving power supplies, serial interface, signal conditioning, RF circuits, transceivers, battery operated devices, low power, sensor technologies, small signal, transient protection, and microcontroller interfaces.  

 

Primary Statement of Duties:

Utilization of lab equipment such as power supply, environmental chambers, and RF/analog test equipment.
Utilization of schematic capture tools and circuit simulation (SPICE) tools for electronic circuit design.
Design and tests electronic circuits, including RF, digital, analog, DC power, uC, and magnetic sensors.
Hands-on bench testing and soldering of electronics.  
Involved in certification of product to FCC and electrical safety standards (UL, IEC, etc..)
Involved in new product introduction (NPI) and manufacturing processes.
Utilization of Microsoft Office tools on a daily basis.

Education and Experience:

Required Minimum Level of Education:  Bachelors Degree
Required Minimum Years of Experience: 1+ to 2
Desired Education/Experience:  Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering or Equivalent

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Experience with lab equipment, such as DC power supply, o-scope, and digital multimeter (DMM).
Experience with schematic capture tools and circuit simulation (SPICE).
Must be able to read schematic and identify standard electrical components.
Experience with soldering of electronics.
Knowledge of fundamental theories of power supply, microcontroller, high frequency signal characteristics, and digital signal characteristics.  
Must be proficient with Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.  
Must have keyboard typing skills.
Must be able to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing.
