This position calls for a knowledgeable and outgoing engineer experienced in PL/SQL development to work on the development of Solution Software. This role will work with other engineers, project teams, support teams and customers to identify solutions/resolution to customer facing issues.   Involved with integrations to other systems, product usability, performance analysis and complex algorithms, this position will plan, design, develop, and maintain the enterprise software components for the Americas Technologies Meter Data Management team. Requiring excellent working knowledge of the Database technologies, Oracle/PLSQL specifically, the organization needs someone who can convert a business requirement into a working software application.


Key Responsibilities

  • Under general supervision and guidance, design, develop, and analyze software-based systems. 
  • Develop against functional specifications provided based on an approved set of requirements. 
  • Assist in recommending, documenting, communicating, and overseeing best practices within team. 
  • Ensure final functional and technical design decisions are properly implemented within the product release. 
  • Participate in design reviews.
  • Provide high-level estimates, review detailed estimates.
  • Re-evaluate estimates as work progresses.
  • Accountable for completing work according to schedule requirements.
  • Attend and participate in development meetings (e.g. SCRUM or others).
  • Support Landis+Gyr applications as implemented at client sites.
  • Support Technical Writers and other documentation resources to ensure delivered solutions are adequately and accurately documented, including modifications to various specifications, installation guides, system administration guides, troubleshooting guides, user guides, and others as appropriate
  • Produce quality, timely, and adequate work which is subject to review at various milestones.
  • Minimize context switching, Autonomous Transactions, Oracle partitioning.
  • Produce appropriate documentation throughout the development process.
  • Support QA resources throughout the testing process.
  • Support DBA and Configuration/Packaging resources throughout the build and delivery of code.
  • Support other resources necessary to ensure appropriate design and development goals.


Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree; preferably in computer science, information systems, engineering, or related field, with 2 years Oracle development experience  
  • Experienced in the use of Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) processes, in the use of Version Control processes and toolsets (e.g. CVS or others), 
  • Experienced in the use of issue / bug tracking processes and toolsets (e.g. Jira or others), Product Development
  • Experienced with the use of UNIX
  • Experienced in the use of Standard Office toolsets (e.g. Microsoft Office and others)
  • Experienced in the use of the following programming:  PL/SQL Language, Packages/Procedures/Functions, Procedural constructs, Code "blocks", Arrays/Collections/PLSQL Tables, Dynamic SQL, SQL*Plus
  • Experience working in an iterative development environment such as Agile, XP, etc.
  • Experienced in the use of the following performance related skills and concepts: Issue identification, Diagnosis, Resolution, SQL Tuning, PL/SQL Tuning, SQL Trace/tkprof
  • Preferred - Utility experience (Electric, Gas, Water); esp. business experience with the retail side of the industry



Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Ability to follow, read, and understand existing. ksh shell scripts, Ability to write shell scripts
  • Ability to install desktop software tools and work thru client-side connectivity issues (TNSNAMES, TOAD, etc.)
