Component Engineer II

The Component Engineer II is responsible for vendor/component qualification of the Company's AMR products to industry and internal standards.


Primary Statement of Duties

  • Work collaboratively with Design Engineers to select and source the best electrical and electro-mechanical components for inclusion in local to North American L+G design efforts.
  • Act as a SME, Subject Matter Expert, to identify and recommend acceptable alternative components in support of on-going manufacturing operations both internal to L+G and with the contract manufacturing partners.
  • Provide quality audit, VDA methodology, support for new and existing L+G suppliers.
  • Evaluate supplier PCN, Product Changes Notices, for life cycle impact to L+G products. Provide guidance to the business on the impact of these change notices.
  • Support ECAD team with component model and library creation.
  • Help build supplier's understanding of L+G's technical and performance requirements.
  • Troubleshoot component related issues and non-conformities with suppliers.
  • Work collaboratively with the L+G global component management organization to evaluate and approve new suppliers. 
  • Identify critical components and establish acceptable standards for the inclusion of alternate components.   
  • Establish guidance to Engineering teams as to the life cycle for components under consideration for new designs.
  • Maintain a market understanding of component manufacturers, their product offering and roadmaps. Use this knowledge to help guide component selection by the Engineering team.

Education & Experience
Required Level of Education: Bachelor’s Degree
Required Years of Experience: 2+ to 5


Desired Education/Experience: Requires a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, physics or related field and 1-3 years of engineering experience, or master’s degree and 0-1 years of engineering experience.


Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Appropriately applies engineering principles and concepts to area of specialization. Is able to draw solutions from formal training and experience.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical documents, procedure manuals, schematics, data books, handbooks, etc. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.  
  • Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of the organization.
  • Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry.  
  • Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
  • An understanding of advanced mathematics, including differential and integral calculus is required.
  • Ability to proficiently utilize standard computer applications such as spreadsheets, word processors, basic CAD tools, web browsers, email, and Windows.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.  
  • Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.  
  • Use of proper scientific methodology is required (Define hypothesis, test hypothesis using reproducible experimental practices, peer review and reporting).
